Dynamos overpower Zesco

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

REJUVENATED Power Dynamos moved to fifth on the MTN/ FAZ Super League table after coming from behind to beat defending champions Zesco United 2-1 at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

A brace from Frederick Mulambia, ensured the continua tion of Power Dynamos’s good form ahead of the derby against Nkana after picking four consecutive wins.

Zesco had started the week 14 fixture as the better team and went ahead five minutes after kick off with a goal from former Power Dynamos midfielder Spencer Sautu.

Sautu put his name on the score sheet when he shot past Sebastian Mwange after a pass from the centre.

Power came close to getting the equaliser four minutes after the half hour mark but were unfortunate as Zesco goal keeper Ian Otieno who was the busiest keeper of the two denied God frey Ngwenya from finding the back of the net.

Otieno would also save from Kennedy Musonda’s effort in the 34th minute as the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Zesco.

Zesco could have doubled their lead in the 55th minute after keeper Mwange spilled Kelvin Kampamba's shot before react ing quickly to pick the ball.

Power managed to get the equaliser in the 66th minute with a goal from Frederick Mulambia who turned in a header from the right in what seemed a deserved goal having piled pres sure on the home side.

Mulambia then grabbed the lead for Power in the 78th min ute after lacing onto a Paul Banda ball to beat Otieno.

The defeat worried coach Numba Mumamba who will need to do some magic to inspire his charges to reclaim the form that saw them win the Super League last season.

"Our form has been below our expectations. This is some thing that we are worried that a team like us cannot be drop ping points the way we are,” Numba said after the game.

After the defeat Zesco fell nine places off the top slot that is being occupied by Green Buffaloes.*
