Phase one of Siavonga Town Council Civic Centre completed
THE construction of phase one of the new Civic Centre for Siavonga Town Council has been completed.
The estimated budget for the new civic center is K3 million and the project is expected to be completed by January 2023.
In a statement released to the Daily Nation, Council Public Relations Officer Gwendolyn Mwanza Mchenga disclosed that phase one which begun in June this year has seven offices and an ablution block for planning department.
Ms Mchenga said phase two which was expected to commence in January next year would see the construction of the administration offices for the Council Secretary, Deputy Council Secretary, Secretaries offices and the main reception.
She added that phase three would have offices for the departments of Works, finance, council Chairperson’s office, Boardroom and the Council Chamber among other departmental offices.
Ms Mchenga said that the local authority has embarked on the project to meet the challenges of office space which it is currently grappling with.
This is in line with the status of a District Planning Authority whose many requirements is to have adequate office spaces and equipment especially in the Planning Department.
She explained that other reasons that led to the construction of the new civic center was to have more office spaces in order to deliver quality service to the community and to also help decongest the congested offices amid Covid 19 pandemic.
Ms Mchenga disclosed the project is being constructed through funds generated from the 20% Local Government equalization funds and locally generated funds.
