Ngabwe DC urges REA to complete power project

-

THE Rural Electrification Authority (REA) should quickly complete its stalled project in Ngabwe, District Commissioner (DC), Hector Filongwe, has said.

Mr. Filongwe said he is deeply concerned with the delay by REA to com plete the electrification project, which he said has stalled for a long time.

He said the delay to complete the project has affected the operations of public service institutions that need power urgently.

Mr. Filongwe told ZANIS in Ngabwe there is an ur gent need to have a source of power to enable civil servants to carry out their duties more efficiently.

“We have engaged REA and have been assured that they will be on the ground in three weeks. The explanation was that they are waiting for some of the materials they sourced from outside the country to be delivered,” he said.

He said the district ad ministration will work closely with REA to ensure that the project is com pleted in order to enhance quality service delivery in the district.

Meanwhile, Ngabwe Town Council Public Rela tions Officer, Christopher Haabukali, said the local authority had written to REA over the matter and was still waiting for feed back as to when works will resume.Mr. Haabukali sai d works such as erecting supply poles across the Kafue river, Chisangwa and Iwonde areas have al ready been done.

He said the council has fulfilled all its logistical obligations and is waiting for works on the stalled project to resume.

And REA Public Rela tions Officer, Justin Muko sa, said the Ngabwe elec trification project stalled because of the budget re-alignment.
