BELIEVE IN YOUNG STARS, ATLETICO LUSAKA PRESIDENT SANNA, TIPS CLUBS

- By MICHAEL MIYOBA

ATLETICO Lusaka Foot ball Club president Mauro Sanna has called on Super League clubs in Zambia to believe in younger players.

Sanna who wondered why most Super League teams fail to use younger players said using younger players is the trend in most top leagues in Europe.

Speaking after signing a deal with Nkana that will see some players from the Lusa ka club given a platform to play the Kitwe giants, San na said young players need to be exposed to top-flight football as early as possible for them to be able to take on bigger challenges in future.

“We always say that Zam bia has talent, but most of the Super Division teams they do not use young play ers,” he said, “but we see big teams like Arsenal, Man City play young boys but us [Zambian teams] feel our young boys cannot play.

“But if they are not playing in the big league in Zambia how can they take on bigger challenges,” Sanna said.

With Nkana having bought the services of Atletico young star, Richard Ngoma on a season-and-half long deal, the two teams have decided to formalise their relation ship by signing an MoU that will see more young players from Lusaka joining the Kit we outfit.

“As you know, we gave Richard Ngoma during the mid-season transfer win dow, the main reason is that these boys despite being young can play in Super Division.

“We are grateful to Nka na, we believe young players should play in the top league if they have the quality. Let us use what we have,” San na said. “We need to be pa tient with young players, but at the end, you will see the results on the pitch, as Zambia, we are rebuilding Chipolopolo and we need young players on this path,” Sanna said.

Meanwhile, Nkana chief executive officer Kelvin Mu tafu who noted the need to rebuild teams around young people said the MoU signed with Atletico Lusaka would benefit both Nkana and the Lusaka outfit.

“As a club, this is a big ar rangement, we need to re build teams around young players and this arrange ment helps us to up in the expertise of Atletico in pro ducing younger players,” Mutafu said.
