FATAZA MOURNS SENIOR CHIEF KANONGESHA
AS an organisation, we would like to celebrate the life of the late Senior Chief Kanongesha for his contribution to the pres ervation and promotion of culture and the Lunda tradition, the Forum for African Traditional Au thorities of Zambia (FA TAZA) has said.
FATAZA General Secre tary Chief Ishima said in an interview that Senior Chief Kanongesha will not only be remembered as a unifier but also as a traditional leader who preserved customs, val ues, artifacts among other things.
He said through his tra ditional ceremony called Chisemwa cha Lunda, Senior Chief Kanongesha brought different people from all walks of life.
Chief Ishima said he will also be remembered as a development-orient ed traditional leader who initiated various devel opmental projects in his chiefdom.
He said he (Kanonge sha) promoted govern ment programmes es pecially among them the eradication of early marriages, keeping girls in school, gender based violence among others.
“Senior Chief Kanonge sha was also one of key persons that supported the formation of FATAZA, he was very instrumen tal,” said Chief Ishima.
He has appealed to the people of North- Western Province especially the youth to emulate the late chief by promoting and preserving their culture.
Chief Ishima said as a traditional leader, he is disappointed that most North-Westerners do not even have time to visit palaces of their tradition al where they come from.
He said most of them are just busy on social media such as Facebook and WhatsApp discuss ing issues that cannot materialise.Senior Chief Kanongesha died on Sun day at his palace and will be put to rest on Friday at the royal burial site.
