TRIBUTE TO MACKY 2 | THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR TALENT WITH US

... YOU HAVE LEFT AN INDELIBLE MARK ON THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

- By MARVELLOUS SAKALA

“Follow your dreams. If you have a goal, and you want to achieve it, then work hard and do everything you can to get there, and one day it will come true.” These are the wise words of Former American World Cup alpine ski racer Lindsey vonn.

Lindsey Vonn’s advice is exactly what a poor little “kopala” boy with a vision of a giant and heart of a tiger followed in pursuit of his dream and passion of becoming a Zambian superstar. Against all odds, Mulaza Kaira aka Macky 2 went from rags to riches and now he has earned himself a rightful place among the Zambian hip-hop pioneers.

With 6 albums and over 60 hit songs and multiple awards to his name, Macky 2 is a living legend who deserves a lot of respect for becoming the “King Bugar” we know today. Some people may call him names for some business decisions he has made in the past but that doesn’t change the fact that he is a focused, hardworking and determined Man who has contributed massively to our entertainment industry and has inspired a lot of youngsters to follow their dreams.

Just like the Bible parable of talents - Macky 2 never buried his talents the way the unwise servants did, rather he went out and shared his talents with the rest of the world. From featuring in the Big Brother House season 9 where he stayed until the final week to opening an orphanage that helps orphans and the underprivileged, Macky 2 has been giving us nothing but love all these years.

On Sunday the 10th of May 2022, Macky 2 announced via a Facebook post on his page that on the 5th of June 2022 he will release his last album and retire from making music actively. As I was reading his post, my mind froze and drifted into a state of being beset by intense emotion that it became difficult to comprehend what I was reading.

I don’t remember how many times I read the post in trying to digest it but all I know is that I read it more than once but still it was hard to fathom because I could not see King buga leaving the stage this early even though it’s important, as they say, to leave the stage while people are still clapping.

Nobody knows Macky 2 better than himself, therefore I believe that his decision to quit making music actively was well thought out. He is a person who knows what he wants in life as evidenced by what he has achieved. Not many people can manage to walk in his shoes because faced all sorts of trials and tribulations but he still managed to overcome them all.

Despite portraying a picture of being a tough guy “umupondo,” Macky 2 is one of the nicest and most generous artists in the Music Industry. He has helped a lot of upcoming artists to make it big - take Yo Maps for instance, Macky 2 jumped on his “finally” song and that’s how Yo Maps was introduced to the World.

Chef 187 “the lyrical G.O.A.T” was also initiated into the Music industry by his older brother Macky 2. The list of artists King Bugar has helped climb up the ladder is too long to mention. Those throwing below the belt jabs at him are either jealous of him or are just serial sadists who take pleasure in inflicting pain on others.

More than 10 years in the game, it has been a beautiful rollercoaster ride for Mack 2 and just like he said it himself - he ran his race and it’s now time he passed on the baton.

Macky 2 may not get the praises he deserves today - maybe that is because he is still alive - typical of us Zambians “hypocrites.” But today, I want to give Macky 2 his flowers whilst he is still alive and appreciate him for entertaining us for so many years.

Best of luck to you Macky 2 as you move to the next chapter in your life. I am certain you will succeed o n c e again in anything you put your mind to.

You still remain the dopest and frieshiest name in the game - MK

Macky 2 - Legend.

Thank you for sharing your talent with us. Your works will speak for you for many years to come.

God bless you!
