HH TO GRACE INTER COMPANY RELAY
THE Zambia Athletics (ZA) has confirmed that President Hakainde Hichilema will be the guest of honor at the 2022 Inter Company Relay ICR which will be held on May 28 at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.
ZA president, Ellias Mpondela, said that as guest of honor, Hichilema would participate in the Good Time Steel-Madison Financial Services Inter-Company Relay. “His Excellency President Hichilema Hakainde will be the Guest of Honor and will also participate in the Good Time Steel-Madison Financial Services 22nd Inter-Company Relay,” Mpondela said in a statement.
The Zambia Athletics (ZA) has partnered with Good Time Steel Company (GTS) and Madison Financial Services, to hold the 22nd Inter-Company Relay (ICR).
The Inter Company Relay returns two years after it was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its accompanying restrictions.
Mpondela said earlier that the relay will be used to raise funds to qualify and send athletes to the World Athletics Championships in Oregon- U.S.A, the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Championships in Mauritius and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham- U.K.
He said the relay is key because the funds raised will be used to support the High Performance Centre and the Talent Identification Program ( TIP) throughout the
Country.
Meanwhile ZA says it will this weekend hold the last National Tournament dubbed the All Comers Meet at National Heroes Stadium before the departure of athletes to Mauritius for the Senior African Championships that will be held on June 08-12, 2022. ZA General Secretary Davison Mungambata said the objective of the tournament is to give last qualifying opportunity to athletes for the major International events and giving preparatory competition to athletes who have already qualified for the U20 World championships to be held in Cali in Colombia from August 04-06, 2022.
Mungambata said four athletes from Mozambique, two from Botswana, two from Namibia and twenty from Zimbabwe would participate at the All Comers meet which will also be used to identify athletes for the World Championships for senior athletes that will be held in Eugene Oregon USA on July 15-24, 2022.
A total of over 300 athletes will participate in the All Comers Meet which will also be used to adequately prepare athletes for the Commonwealth Games to be held in Birmingham City, United Kingdom (UK) from July 28, to August 6, 2022.
