Lubwe Girls receive sanitary pads

-

ENERGY Minister Eng. Peter Kapala has donated sanitary pads to Lubwe Girls Primary School in Chifunabuli District, Luapula Province.

The Minister who is also the patron for the Peter Kapala Foundation, urged the girls to take advantage of the free education policy by the new dawn administration to realise their dreams.

He said education is the key to the economic development of the nation.

“You should not envy those who want to earn quick money but you need to learn to earn your money in the right way. As a foundation we would want to see some of you girls when you grow up serving in higher positions,” he said.

He added that the Peter Kapala Foundation that he has set up with his wife will continue to help the girls with necessary tools for them to continue learning.

“We will help you with books, pens, sanitary pads and anything that will help with your education,” he said.

He noted that the foundation will reach out to all schools in the district in the quest to help out the girl child including the boy child attain their much needed education.

And receiving the donation on behalf of the pupils, Head Teacher Sr. Judith Nkolonga said the donation will go a long way in ensuring that the girls do not abscond classes.

Sr. Nkolonga observed that it has been a challenge keeping the girl child in school due to lack of sanitary towels.

“We appreciate the Minister who has a heart to come to this place and help out the girl child,” she said.

She noted that the reusable sanitary pads can last for at least two years before being disposed-off. Lubwe Girls Primary School has a pupil population of 900 with a Special Unit of 32 physically challenged pupils. - ZANIS.
