OUR DEMOCRACY INJURED - NDC

- By LUCY PHIRI

THE ruling UPND government will be reported to cooperating partners and other international donor organisations for alleged abuse of state machinery and human rights to fix political opponents.

National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary General Charles Kabwita told the Daily Nation, he would personally deliver letters of complaints against the ruling party because of what he termed as abuse of law targeting opposition leaders.

Mr Kabwita has further accused the Zambia Police in colluding with the United Party for National Development (UPNDin the alleged abduction of members of the opposition political parties under the guise of reporting them to far-flung areas for offences committed in Lusaka.

“We have seen the Zambian police and the United Party for National Development (UPND) abducting men and women from the opposition political parties,” National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary General Charles Kabwita has claimed.

Mr Kabwita said under the current leadership and under the watch of President Hakainde Hichilema, Police have been abusing the opposition members with impunity.

He said recently, police abducted Mr. Chilufya Tayali more than twice, Ms. Saboi Imboela, Mr Sean Tembo, including PF members, Chishimba Kambwili, Raphael Nakacinda, Davies Chama and Stephen Kampyongo.

Mr Kabwita said such an attitude cannot continue in the country that prides itself on being democratic.

“We are worried following incidents of police brutality against the opposition leaders in Zambia. I am compelled to visit the following embassies, the United States embassy, United Kingdom, the Swedish, and so forth to report because I believe they treasure and value Democracy and our human rights and democracy must prevail,’’ he said.

He stated that the new UPND government will continue wasting their resources and taxpayers money which people are sweating for.

“Our Democracy has been injured to the core with impunity,” Mr Kabwita stressed.
