KAFUE COUNCIL CHAIR SUSPENDED?

…as UPND cadres accuse Garry Nkombo of causing confusion and making the ruling party unpopular

- By NATION REPORTER

BUUMBA Malambo, the Kafue Town Council Chairperson has reportedly been suspended with immediate effect.

Unconfirmed reports by press time were to the effect that Ms Malambo along with her husband Kelly Malambo and other officials had been suspended after the council passed a vote of no confidence in their leadership.

Scores of UPND cadres took to the streets yesterday demanding for the dismissal of Garry Nkombo, the Minister of Local Government and Rural Development and Ms

Malambo. The two have been accused of causing confusion in the governing party apart from allegedly parceling some piece of land which they are said to have sold.

But Mr Nkombo has described the protests as nothing but sponsored revolts by his enemies, which he said were not going to yield anything as he had not done anything to warrant his dismissal by President Hakainde Hichilema.

Mr Nkombo said his political characteristics were unimpeachable and unblemished and that he was not an easy man to be pushed around by sponsored demonstrations against him. He said he had become a strong and astute politician who could not easily be broken by simple challenges which could easily be blown away by simple political winds.

“Enemies staging sponsored protests will not yield anything. Meanwhile, know that I am busy. Not even steel is strong enough to break me. I am made of tungsten so these sponsored demonstration are nothing and cannot break me,” Mr Nkombo said.

Mr Nkombo said that he would not be swayed from doing his job and warned all those that were pushing an agenda to have him fired or leave government to stop because he was not going anywhere.

Meanwhile, scores of UPND cadres spilled on the streets of Kafue chanting slogans against Mr Nkombo and accused him of having betrayed the party and failing to work.

The cadres accused the Local Government Minister of having regard for party structures and that he was the unity and peace in the ruling party.

The cadres who thronged the Kafue roads were seen with placards calling for Mr Nkombo, Ms Malambo and her husband dismissal for allegedly causing confusion in the party.
