UPND BLAME GAMES

- Dear Editor,

SPEAKING for myself, I think the new route taken by the ruling UPND to devote its precious time playing blame games against the PF is a sheer waste of time.

It is no wonder the tag "Bally will fix it" has been drowned in the Pacific Ocean, replaced by accusing fingers.

UPND has been in government for just over a year but things on the ground still look uncertain as the promised good life for Zambians remains in the air.

Apart from the rumours of the best performing economy in Africa which has no knock-on effect on the citizens, there is nothing which the new dawn administration can point a finger at to make a difference.

It is the same high cost of living, high cost of doing business, high rentals, costly electricity, fuel and the list goes on.

So the easy way out for UPND is to ceaselessly heap blame on PF for whatever is going wrong in the nation.

I still remember the words of Mr Harry Kalaba, former Foreign Affairs Minister in the PF administration that the things HH said during his campaign trails, he (Kalaba) would not have said them for obvious reasons.

I therefore totally agree with PF Presidential hopeful Mr Brian Mundubile that time for stories by UPND is over. It is now to produce results to people's expectations.

Mr Mundubile, who is

Mporokoso Member of Parliament hit the nail on the head when he said Zambians are now able to compare PF and UPND situations.

He is particularly disappointed with UPND's failure to provide affordable medicines especially to the poor in rural areas. He is dismayed by consistent shortages of medicines in government clinics and hospitals which he claims has resulted in deaths of people who cannot access essential drugs.

And I think for UPND to continue cataloguing PF's mistakes is not good enough as it is now the duty of UPND to right those wrongs. Even the much-talked about economic recovery coupled by our best performing Kwacha globally, does not make much sense when people are not directly benefitting from it. Many small business activities in compounds have literally evaporated into thin air because the economy has failed to support them. Farmers are in a coma because of chaotic and late delivery of farming inputs.

So is it PF that messed up the 2022/23 farming season? I don't think so. It is time for UPND to move away from these blame games and begin to work for Zambians as nothing else will do. Blame games will not change anything except prolong the suffering of the people. UPND should simply stop its extenuation and work towards fulfilling its campaign promises. SIMON M,

Lusaka
