REVOLT BREWING IN UPND - MUSOMA
THE resignation of Mutinta Mazoka from the UPND could be a sign that there is a simmering revolt within the ruling party and unless the leadership realises that there is disenchantment, there is a danger that the ruling party could suffer disintegration, Wright Musoma has charged.
Mr Musona, the Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) leader says the resignation of Ms Mazoka could be a sign that the ruling party was fermenting a lot of issues due to the greed and selfishness being exhibited by the party leadership.
Mr Musoma said in an interview that it was unfortunate that President Hakainde Hichilema and other leaders could not accept that they were not governing justly and should start heeding the advice of its members if it has to avoid disintegration.
He said the resignation of Ms Mazoka, the daughter to the founding father of the UPND was one of the many signs the ruling party was a failed project and that there was a simmering revolt within the party. He said a party that still had the people on its side would not need to use Machiavellian tactics in order to win by elections like it was in the Kwacha and Kabushi by elections where the ruling party, won the by elections after blocking its rival contenders.
“That we have witnessed a resignation of such magnitude in the UPND is surely a telling story. Often, it has been tradition that party zealots should resign from the opposition political party to the one in government. And that Ms Mazoka is the daughter of the founding father of the UPND tells us of untold problems. This could be a revolt within the UPND and if they are going to gloss over it, they should be ready for an explosion as we move toward 2026,” Mr Musoma said.
Mr Musoma said the UPND was yet to see many more people leaving because of the selfishness that the top leadership had as could be seen by its youths protesting over hunger.
He said there were many people who were on the verge of leaving but were only sticking around for convenience as they had not yet found anywhere to go and were hoping to be offered something.
Mr Musoma said there was need for quick realisation of all the wrongs that were happening by the top leadership before the party melted away even before reaching 2026.
