Stop the vengeance, Bishop Mambo advises UPND
THE UPND government should resist the temptation of fixing Mumbi Phiri and other former leaders of the Patriotic Front (PF) but should instead show compassion and not avenge for whatever she might have done against those in power, Bishop John Mambo has advised.
Bishop Mambo said Ms Phiri, who was hospitalised at Lewanika General Hospital as she was diabetic and needed special treatment should not be punished before she was found guilty by the courts of law.
He has challenged the new dawn administration under the stewardship of President Hakainde Hichilema not to be vindictive because vengeance belonged to God.
He said they should avoid vengeance, vindictiveness, retribution and hatred against those who could have transgressed.
“This UPND government should not be vindictive and should not harbour hatred and vengeance against those who could have transgressed against them while in the opposition.
The UPND under the leadership of President Hichilema should know that vengeance belongs to God. Let the leadership avoid vengeance, retribution, hatred and vindictiveness and begin to feel compassion for people like Mumbi Phiri and other former leaders,” Bishop Mambo said.
He said the UPND administration should not make the fixing of their political opponents their goal but should serve Zambians according to the promises they made.
Bishop Mambo said Ms Phiri and many others could have made mistakes in the discharge of their duties and might have offended certain people now in government but maintained it was wrong to oppress and ill-treat them.
He said it was important for the new dawn administration to show leadership and show Ms Phiri compassion now that she was ill and not try to make her life a hell on earth just because she belonged to the opposition.
