Lupili Primary School in need of classroom blocks
LUPILI Primary School Head Teacher Catherine Chabala has bemoaned the lack of enough classroom space at the school.
Mrs Chabala says the dilapidated buildings the school uses belongs to Luapula cooperatives, and can no longer accommodate the increasing number of pupils at the school.
She disclosed that the school has over 900 pupils from Grade one to seven, adding that the current infrastructure is not enough despite dividing it into seven small classrooms.
“With the introduction of free education, we have more pupils that have enrolled in school and the policy now is that every child must pass through Early Childhood Education before proceeding to grade one. This calls for more infrastructure if we are to deliver quality education,” She said.
ZANIS reports that Mrs Chabala was speaking when she gave an update of the school to a team of district officials led by the District Commissioner and the Council Chairperson who were at the school to inspect the construction of a one by three classroom block under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).
And speaking after inspecting the construction of a classroom block, Chembe District Commissioner, Christopher Mwansa observed that the classroom block will help cushion the challenges of infrastructure being faced by the school.
“This building is at 99 percent completion with minor works to be worked on by the contractor, otherwise, it is ready for commissioning any time soon. Once commissioned it will go a long way in addressing infrastructure challenges at the school,” Mr Mwansa said.
Earlier, Chembe District Works Supervisor, Davies Miyamba said the only challenge that the building will face is the retention of water due to poor workmanship on the drainage system.
Mr Miyamba said there is need to urgently look into works for the drainage and if ignored it would affect the durability of the building.
