Rainstorm collapses 11 houses collapse in Limulunga
ELEVEN houses in Limulunga East Ward have been affected by a rainstorm that poured in the area blowing off roofs and some houses collapsed.
One of the affected residents, Inonge Kawina, who is a patient, miraculously escaped death as she was sleeping in the house that was hit by a tree following the rainstorm.
Kawina has since sustained some minor injuries from the accident and by press time she was found sleeping under a tree still not feeling well.
“I was sleeping inside because I haven’t been well, I just heard the bang sound of a tree and felt something hit my body inside the house. The boys had to break a space in the already broken house to bring me out,” Ms Kawina said.
And a relative to Ms Kawina, Masialeti Numuluku said they experienced rains which were associated with thunder and strong wind which uprooted trees and destroyed houses.
Another victim, Muchana Singula described the disaster as devastating, saying he was not around when the rainstorm hit but just found that the roof was completely out, with his properties exposed to the rain.
Meanwhile, Sibeso Kunyima lamented that life has been difficult after the rainstorm blew off the roof and destroyed some properties and food.
Ms Kinyima has since appealed to the government for help to relieve them of the challenges they are facing because she doesn’t have any other helper.
However, Limulunga Town Council and the District Disaster Management and Mitigation Committee visited the different households to assess the extent of the damage.
Limulunga Town Council Chairperson, Joel Masiye, who sympathized with the victims, said the council has available funds which can be sourced to assist disaster victims.
Mr Masiye has assured people of the government's interventions, saying a disaster component under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) has been put up to address such calamities.
And Limulunga East Councillor, Lubinda Muyunda said one house is sheltering a chronic patient and mentally disturbed patient thus, calling on the Disaster Managemnet Mitigation Unit (DMMU) to bring tents that can provide them with temporary shelters.
Limulunga District Administrative Officer, Fine Chibilika said the situation calls for quick attention for the community that has been affected.
