WOOLEY IS AN EMBARRASSMENT, SAYS CHANDA

- By NATION REPORTER

NICHOLAS Wooley the British Ambassador to Zambia is an embarrassment to the diplomatic society by lowering himself to be a praise singer when he knows well that the country’s democracy has diminished, New Congress Party president Peter Chanda has said.

Mr Chanda wondered whether Mr Wooley has been staying in Zambia because majority Zambians are not happy with what is currently happening.

He said, the people of Zambia are able to see that the opposition members are being arrested on a daily basis without thorough investigations, political parties are being denied to hold rallies.

Mr Chanda said, Zambians can therefore not tolerate diplomats who want to mock them in order to please the powers that be.

The opposition leader, who is also United Kwacha Alliance (UKA) member said, diplomats need to conduct themselves in a respectable manner instead of demeaning themselves.

“So, Wooley is saying that Zambians are stupid, what they are complaining about does not exist. I think this man need to check himself, who can respect such a diplomat.

These are the people who were busy attacking the PF government, during that time the opposition were free to hold rallies unlike what is happening now. So, our advice is that let him do a right a thing before he lives than making himself irrelevant to Zambians,” Mr Chanda said.

He said the conduct of Mr Wooley is against diplomatic etiquette.
