Nkana Golf Club Tops Zambia's Top 5 Golf Clubs
Zambia's Golf is slowly spreading and clubs are now setting up academies for Junior Golfers to set the stage to develop and have Zambian golfers challenge for major trophies for not only the Zambia Open, but other prestigious events and become a credible part of the Sunshine Tour, Southern Africa's own golf circuit.
The top100 golf courses has extended its ratings of golf clubs and below is their top 5 for Zambian Golf clubs.
At number 1. is Nkana Golf Club, famed to have once occupied a place in the Guinness book of records for being one of the busiest golf courses in the world during the Copperbelt's boom years in the 1950's and 1960's. It's located at the city of Kitwe and operated by Glencore's local unit, Mopani Copper Mines (MCM).
At number 2. is Nchanga Golf Club, located at the copper mining town of Chingola. Chingola was once Zambia's cleanest and garden city. The club and supported and operated by Vendanta's local unit, Konkola Copper Mines (KCM). It has held the Zambia Open no fewer than three times in the last eleven years.
At number 3. is Lusaka Golf Club, located at the heart of Zambia's capital City of Lusaka, it has hosted the largest number of Zambia Opens, no fewer than 25. It's located in the prestigious areas of Kabulonga, Sunningdale and Woodlands
At number 4 is Ndola Golf Club, located in the City of Ndola, Copperbelt political capital. It was established in 1921 and is Zambia's oldest Golf Club. It's recently been upgraded and has hosted a couple of Zambia opens
At number 5 is Mufulira Golf Club, Located in the mining town of Mufulira and operated by Glencore's local unit MCM. It's has undergone some upgrades and seems destined to be displaced from the top 5 if more investment is not poured in.
There are about three new golf courses that have recently been established. One is called Bonaza and located at Lusaka, the other is Kansanshi located at Solwezi and the other is Kalumbila located at Kalumbila town. These course have great potential and will most likely bounce in the top 5 after a full assessment by professional golf course assessors are done.
