Workers Compensation Board sells ‘ Vision Zero’…
Workers Compensation Board Fund – WCF on 18 May sold Vision Zero a campaign based on the belief that all accidents, diseases and harm at work are preventable. This campaign aims at promoting core values ranging from safety to employee well-being.
Workers Compensation Fund Board Manager for Health Safety and Occupation Mr. Chansa Kapema said during the ceremony that the company wanted to sell the concept ‘vision zero’ to avoid the high cases of deaths recorded in various work places due to poor safety measures.
Mr. Kapema said the ‘vision zero’ campaign has seven major aims which must be followed in ensuring that the campaign is successfully carried include, improving the qualifications of workers, use of machines in condition as well as investing in workers as a way of motivating them.
In a speech given by the boards Chief Executive Officer – Dr. Elizabeth Nkumbula, it was established that WCFB plays a critical role in educating the members of the general public in ensuring that accident cases are reduced by 2030.
Dr. Nkumbula acknowledged the media in partnering with the board in disseminating of information which she urged them to continue working hard.
Dr Nkumbula said the world statistics on occupational accidents which was compiled by labour organization does indicate at least two million plus workers die as a result of work related causes annually globally. Although statistics in Zambia appear to under reported they are at least an average of 1,200 reported to worker’s compensation annually.
