2020 Rolls-Royce Wraith: Safety features

-

“With state- of-the-art technology and a sturdy build all around the Rolls-Royce Wraith, it is dubious at best that any crash would happen with a sane driver behind the wheel.”

The above statement is part of an article by Carindigo.com's content writer Karan Harit which detailed the safety features on the Rolls-Royce Wraith, the same car that Zimbabwe businessman and socialite Genius Kadungure was driving when he was involved in a fatal car crash that claimed his life and that of three others.

According to reports, Kadungure's vehicle collided with a Honda Fit head-on before veering off the road, hitting a tree and bursting into flames.

On impact, the Rolls Royce engine detached from the vehicle with the wheels flying off in different directions.

But according to Harit's write up there are very few cars that can hope to match the exclusivity of any bearing the ‘ RR' badge.

Here is more of Harit’s review

Though each car is special in its own right, the Wraith is unique in its ability to remain world-class to not just sit in but to drive as well.

As soon as the suicide doors are swung outside from its beautiful coupe body, it is sometimes really difficult to resist the urge of telling the valet to take the day off and have the vehicle to no one but yourself for a nice relaxing drive.

With a mighty twin-turbo 6.6L V12 engine turning out 624 horsepower and 605 lb-ft of torque, the car can go from naught to 96 kph in 4,2 seconds. That makes the car equally adept to take to the track or a cruise along the back roads. With a cozy interior and bewildering performance, the Wraith might be the sportiest Rolls-Royce yet. Logically, you would think of its safety features instead of firing your chauffeur in case of a collision. Glad to say, it doesn't disappoint.

As is with all the other aspects of the car, the safety department is not left anything short of well-loaded. Starting with the chassis, it is an extension of what you would find on a BMW 7-series.

Every Bimmer tested has had a score nigh-short of perfect for all the cars, so you might be safe from a missile when inside the cabin of the Wraith. Additionally, many cutting-edge systems can immensely in avoiding any scrapes.

Royce Wraith safe?

The Rolls-Royce Wraith is the closest any production car can get to an actual Batmobile.

This piece of art comes equipped with all the features you might need to help prevent any imminent collision. With all its features, it is sad to see no blind spot sensors are offered even as options. Some of the notable features are:

Front Collision Warning and Advanced Emergency Braking: The system utilises radar sensors situated on the front bumpers of the car to measure the distance of the Wraith from other objects in the front. If the system senses any danger, it alerts the driver of the same through aural and visual cues well ahead of time to take evasive measures. If the driver fails to respond adequately, the system automatically engages the brakes to their maximum power to bring the car to an immediate halt.

Front and Rear Parking Sensors : It is highly unlikely that you would park the Wraith by yourself. No matter who is behind the wheel, it is highly unlikely that any scratches would ruin the car's elegant exterior.

The Wraith comes with parking sensors at both the front and back end of the car.

The rearview mirrors even use the side cameras to provide a curb view.

There is not much automation but the system works well enough to enable you to judge the right parking spot perfectly. The system works in tandem with front and rear-view cameras as well.

SAS-Spec Night Vision : Yes, that's right. The Wraith, true to its namesake, gives you the ability to see in pitch-black darkness. The system highlights warm bodies from colder backgrounds and provides a clear picture of what surrounds the car on the central touchscreen.

This is extremely helpful in situations when a heavy fog envelopes the road, rendering the headlights useless.

Lane Departure warning :The 2020 RollsRoyce Wraith comes equipped with sensors that constantly monitor lane markings on either side of the car.

If there is a lane change without active indicators, the system warns the driver through the dashboard display and a specified tone.

Usually, such an event occurs when the driver is experiencing fatigue. So, the system produces a vibration in the steering wheel to make him/her more attentive.

Is the 2020 Rolls-Royce Wraith safe to drive?

With state-of-the-art technology and a sturdy build all around the Rolls-Royce Wraith, it is dubious at best that any crash would happen with a sane driver behind the wheel.

All things considered, nothing is stopping you from enjoying the car to the fullest aside from, of course, the mile-high price tag. — Carindigo.com's (additional reporting by Business Weekly Staff Writer).
