The Old Prunitians

PLUMTREE High School former students are referred to as “Old Prunitians”. The etymology of the word “Prunitian” is from the naming of a dried plum, hence the term Prunitian.

Plumtree High School has been home to a number of high profile pupils who have made a mark in life.

Among the former students is Peter Walls who headed the Rhodesian army who was at the school up to about 1944 and was a prefect at one of the houses.

Ndabezinhl­e Mdlongwa whose 17.96m in triple jump has been the national record for almost 20 years is in a list of former students who distinguis­hed themselves outside schools sport.

Athletics also produced Ronald Chiwerera.

Cricketers Terrence Duffin, Sean Williams, Wayne James, Anthony Ireland and Henry Olonga were stars at the school’s sports pavilion while Cleopas Makotose, Victor Olonga and Adrian Garvey rate among the best rugby players to emerge from the school.

In hockey, Thamsanqa Jongile has been one of the stand out stars together with Tommy Sameke, Danny Henry and Dave Kaschula.

Two former Warriors players Ronald Sibanda who played football for AmaZulu, Dynamos and Zimbabwe Saints and Bosso shot stopper Ariel Sibanda are former football stars at the school.

Others like Adrian Gliwitzki stood out in aquatic sports.
