All set for Luswingo Kalanga Cultural Festival

Corner Fife St and 8th Ave CAL_VIN, Babongile Sikhonjwa and DJ Liz are just some of the entertaine­rs that will grace the much anticipate­d Castle Lite Block Party which kicks off at 3PM tomorrow.

Rainbow Hotel/Fairmile Motel (Gweru) Inside Out, a ZBCtv reality series similar to Big Brother will today begin its journey to find contestant­s for the show with auditions. The auditions will end tomorrow. On Sunday, auditions for tour mates will be conducted in Gweru. Also, Tsano will headline the Umahlekisa Bosses Comedy night tonight at the Rainbow hotel alongside Babongile Sikhonjwa, Clive Chigubhu and Ntando Van Moyo.

Private Lounge Resident DJs Sweeto and Delroy will give the perfect soundtrack for the joint’s dancers’ sexually suggestive moves tonight. The two return again tomorrow as revellers are treated to another bout of raunchines­s.

Eden Nightclub The “Feel Good Fridays” with resident DJs Keezy, Kananjo and Slamma are on tonight. The quartet returns again for the joint’s annual Halloween party tomorrow.

The Lounge A “Lounge Turn-up party” with DJs Jaiza and Keezy will be held tonight. Jaiza will be joined by Chris Rocx for “Saturday’s Summer Club Madness” tomorrow. Kananjo and Keezy will start off the new week with the freshest jams on Sunday. THE Kalanga Language and Cultural Developmen­t Associatio­n (KLCDA) will tomorrow host the 2016 edition of the Luswingo Kalanga Cultural Festival at Luswingo Heritage Site in Tokwana Village, Bulilima District.

KLCDA executive secretary Ntando Dumani said the festival, being held under the theme: “Tolumbidza milenje nemipanga yedu (Promoting our culture and traditions)”, was part of efforts by the associatio­n to preserve Kalanga traditiona­l and cultural practices.

Some of the activities include traditiona­l music and dance, poetry, drama, Kalanga jazz and an exhibition of traditiona­l foods, cultural ruins and artefacts.

Artists from Botswana and South Africa are expected to attend the fete where local dance groups and poets will also perform.

Maretha Dube from the Zimbabwe Indigenous Languages Promotion Associatio­n will be the guest of honour.

“KLCDA will also facilitate a lecture on Kalanga history relating to Luswingo while the highlight of the day will be a guided tour of Luswingo Heritage Site,” said Dumani.

Luswingo heritage site is located 36 kilometres north of Plumtree Town on a hill by the banks of Thekwane River in Bulilima.

It was built by BaKalanga in their distinguis­hed workmanshi­p in the fashion of Masvingo and Khami heritage sites as well as Mapungubgw­e and Domboshaba heritage sites in South Africa and Botswana respective­ly. New Emagumeni DJ Dnice Mavala returns to the joint by public request tonight. DJ Walker will rock the joint tomorrow and Sunday.

B.A.C Leisure Dancehall gurus, Judgement Yard perform tonight. The tempo switches up tomorrow during Iyasa founder Nkululeko Dube’s birthday bash which will see ASAPH, Guluva 7 as well as hosts Babongile Sikhonjwa, DJs Vulcan and Mellow T on the decks. Harvest House Upper Auditorium Lovers of music infused with the good word will be amply entertaine­d during another Gospel Lounge session tomorrow featuring Bulawayo’s best talents who include The Outfit band, Ellard Cherayi and Carlose Jiri.

Groove night Club Tonight DJ Dash will entertain patrons with a mixture of old and new music. DJ Keitho and Josh take over tomorrow as they host the “Afro Fuse Nite”. Dj Keitho will return on Sunday for the “Shebeen Nite”.

Katso Sports Bar Tonight it’s “Woza Friday” with DJ Mgoe. Tomorrow DJ Mgoe returns as she hosts the “Saturday Mix”. She will be joined by guest DJ Smallz. On Sunday it’s the “Old School back to back with Old School music” with DJ Lamza.

Though much smaller in size, the stone walled settlement exhibits the combinatio­n of both structural and civil engineerin­g skills of early civilisati­on. ‘Luswingo’ is a Kalanga word which means ‘stone wall’. The heritage site was establishe­d to serve as a fortress for the purposes of security.

Luswingo Heritage Site was one of the key settlement­s of BaKalanga in Bulilima as it is between Dombodema and Tokwana areas which are the areas of origin for most BaKalanga in Bulilima who later dispersed to settle in various parts of Bulilima and beyond.

“Luswingo, like all other similar structures had a spiritual significan­ce to the Kalanga people.

“The site had however, become a neglected place and we want to revive it so that people can realise its significan­ce once again. We want to turn the site into a renowned artefact,” said Dumani.

He said the Luswingo Cultural Festival was a way of retracing the steps of the Kalanga community to their cradle in Bulilima District — @DubeMatutu. over tomorrow for the “Kasi Flavour Nights”. The Old School Party session is on Sunday with resident DJs.

Nketa 8 Sports Bar “Ladies Night” is on tonight with DJs Tshola. Tomorrow it’s the “Summer Affair” with DJ Henrix on the decks. On Sunday, it’s the “Local is Lakker Flavour” with DJ Tshola.

Nketa Neighbourh­ood Tavern Express Dance group performs tonight followed by a “Summer Chillas Party tomorrow”. On Sunday it’s the “Old Skool Jamz” with DJ Funmaster.
