Moto Moto crowned Div 2 champs

- Tobias Mandoreba in Hwange

ARMY side Moto Moto have been crowned Zifa Matabeleland North Division Two champions after dismissing a stubborn Hotspurs Leopards 2-0 at Ralyton ground in Dete.

Goals by Menard Manyevere and Willard Bembenene ensured Fredy Mudado’s boys took their points tally to an unassailable 58 to win promotion into the Zifa Southern Region Division One for 2017.

Zifa Matabeleland North chairperson Dennis Tshuma congratulated Moto Moto and indicated that there was still one other promotion slot.

“I would like to congratulate Moto Moto for being crowned champions this year, but there is another slot, as two teams are getting automatic promotion into Division One next year and that will be decided after the last round of matches,” said Tshuma.

This means second-placed Victoria Falls-based Mosi Rovers, who suffered a huge setback last week when they were docked three points for using an unregistered player, have to prevail over rivals Amagagasi Under-19 in their tricky derby, as they are tied on 54 points with Baobab Rovers, but enjoy a healthy goal difference.

Rovers hammered Iwisa 3-1 away at Lwendulu Old Ground in Hwange and they look set to join Moto Moto in Division One next season barring any drama. Rovers won’t have it easy in the last game, as they square up against tricky Hotspurs Leopards at home.

Ingagula FC hammered Classic Luyando 4-1 with regular scorer Wayne Shumba’s hat trick and a goal by Tapiwa Kanjunjuma authoring the rout. Philani Mthombeni grabbed the face saver for visiting Luyando.

Blackrock FC pulled off the shock of the weekend at Chinotimba Stadium in Victoria Falls by edging Amagagasi Under-19 1-0, with a classic Gideon Makotose header underlining the headline win.

On Sunday, visitors Lukhosi Pirates edged home side and prison outfit Tenex FC 1-0 with Moses Khumalo’s goal enough to shock Tenex, who are always hard to beat at home.

Trumus Warriors got three points after walking over troubled Corinthians on a 3-0 score line. — @ tobymandox.
