Wife frees ‘abusive’ Skoro

- Cynthia Dube

FORMER Amakorokoza actor Aleck “Skoro” Zulu (44) is now off the hook after his wife withdrew physical abuse charges against him.

Zulu was arrested after he stabbed his wife, Ms Eunice Chikomba with a knife, grabbed her by the neck before punching her several times on the mouth for arriving home late.

Ms Chikomba told the court that she had resolved issues with her husband.

Bulawayo Magistrate Mr Tinashe Tashaya granted the withdrawal.

Ms Chikomba said Zulu had agreed to settle her hospital bill.

“Your worship, may the court withdraw the case against my husband who is facing a physical abuse charges. When my husband was granted bail, we managed to resolve issues. He promised to pay my hospital bill,” she said.

Ms Chikomba last week caused a stir outside the courtroom after she refused to withdraw charges against her husband. Zulu’s friends pleaded with her to drop the charges and offered her money. She initially demanded $30 and when they were about to give her the money, she increased her demand to $100. The friends again pooled resources and when they tried to give her the $100, she increased the demand, this time three fold to $300 saying her ear was damaged following the assault. The friends, made up of mainly artists, finally gave up. Zulu was arrested after allegedly hurling insults at his wife and at the same time threatening to disclose ‘‘her HIV status’’ to B-Metro reporters. The status was not disclosed in court. Zulu from Bulawayo’s Mzilikazi suburb was popular for portraying the violent Skoro who led a gang called “Izinja” in the popular local soapie, Amakorokoza which ran on ZTV between 2007 and 2009. He is famous for the lines “Ngizakumanzisa” while holding an Okapi knife and threatening to stab a rival gang leader. @cynthiamthembo1
