Zimbabweans need to maintain national pride

-

EDITOR — One of the key lessons from the just ended Zanu-PF conference in Masvingo is that Zimbabweans need to be resolute in defending their national pride, independence and sovereignty.

Allowing imperialists to run our affairs in Zimbabwe will only lead to Harare or any of our large cities turning into another Aleppo.

When Russia and America broke the ceasefire in Aleppo people started dying in their thousands on a daily basis.

This is how the imperialists treat countries when they feel they have extracted all they want from a country.

I was happy when Cde Coltrane Chimurenga, who comes from the United States of America, explained why Zimbabweans have to guard their national and African pride jealously.

He spoke with clarity on the evil intentions of the Western administrations towards African countries, especially Zimbabwe.

If a person who is well informed on how the system works gives us a warning, we should be quick to heed the call and reaffirm the nationalist spirit in our citizenry.

An unfortunate incident in our national fabric was when sponsored clowns like Evan Mawarire emerged on the scene trying to cause despondency in Zimbabwe through flag-waving stunts.

That will remain a bad episode in our history. To guard against a repeat we need to teach these children from an early age what it means to be a patriotic Zimbabwean.

When the President talked of the importance of peace in the party, I hope the message got to the individuals who are bent on creating divisions in the country too. Their actions are a betrayal of the ethos Zanu-PF is well known for. We even heard ANC Vice President Cyril Ramaphosa speak highly of the party and how it has maintained its shape over the years.

This shows that Zanu-PF is not only a party but an institution which is best suited to defend the sovereignty of our country, come what may. Cde Mlilo Masondo
