Chitembwe must not blame his players

-

EDITOR — I have read press reports saying Caps United coach Lloyd Chitembwe was blaming his players for the 4-2 loss to Al Ahly Tripoli in Tunisia.

I found his comments to be disrespectful towards all Caps United players and if anything it is his fault that the team conceded eight goals in two matches.

Putting things into perspective, Chitembwe was tactically outsmarted in the two fixtures. The two goals that his team pulled back show that they had the wherewithal to match the Libyans, if only their gaffer had the responses to the questions asked of them.

Football is a sport of three probable outcomes and it is unfortunate that in this case Caps United got the worst possible of them all.

That being the reality, Chitembwe should improve on his approach to matches and stop castigating players.

He should understand that the game gets more technical in the champions league, it is different from coaching against Yadah FC or any other local team.

In my opinion, players tried their level best but they were let down by the absence of creative decisions from the bench.

If his stay at the helm of one of the biggest football clubs in Zimbabwe is going to be fruitful, Chitembwe needs to respect the players.

That is the only way he can be assured that they give him their all on the pitch. Callington Nembire, Via e-mail
