Plumtree unveils reduced capital projects budget

- Richard Muponde Plumtree Correspondent

PLUMTREE municipality has unveiled a $5 million budget meant for capital projects in 2018 and the projects to be implemented include construction of a maternity ward and drilling of boreholes in every ward to augment water shortages in the border town.

The budget is a decrease from the $5,6 million 2017 budget. In an interview, the town secretary, Mr Dumezweni Davis Luthe said yesterday that the focus next year will be on service delivery hence the projects meant to improve the residents’ welfare.

“Basically the budget we submitted for next year is slightly less than the 2017 budget which was $5,6 million. We intend to implement capital projects which include construction of a maternity ward and drilling of boreholes to improve water supplies in the town. We are also going to construct a fourth classroom block at Matiwaza Primary School,” said Mr Luthe.

He said council also had plans to upgrade Dingimuzi Stadium so that it meets the Premier Soccer League standards and also spruce up the town’s tennis courts.

“We are going to drill a borehole at the stadium to water the turf and also erect terraces and a precast wall,” he said.

Mr Luthe said a maternity ward will be constructed at Dingimuzi Clinic to reduce pressure on Plumtree District Hospital.

He said another project to be implemented was that of putting up street lights in the different sections of the town.

This year the major projects undertaken by council include the servicing of housing stands in Mathendele suburb and construction a classroom block at Matiwaza Primary Schoo as well as the tarring of major roads in the border town.—@richardmuponde.
