Always tell the truth, Ngwenya urges youth

- Nqobile Tshili Chronicle Correspondent

LIBERATION stalwart Cde Jane Ngwenya has said Zanu-PF members should speak out against bad practices in the party as failure to do so will destroy the revolutionary party.

Cde Ngwenya said this after she was visited by Zanu-PF Youth League members on Thursday at Bulawayo’s Coronation Old People’s Home where she lives.

The Youth League members led by Secretary for Youth Affairs Cde Pupurai Togarepi listened to her as she counselled them on political and social issues.

Cde Ngwenya said for Zanu-PF to remain strong, cadres should always tell the truth.

She said failure to be frank with each other in the party was witnessed through Presidential Interface Rallies which drew thousands of people across nine provinces, but appear not to have been popular.

“There were so many people attending those rallies but now when things changed leading to the resignation of Cde Mugabe many people also changed. This is a clear result of people failing to tell each other the truth, some of the things could have been avoided,” she said.

Cde Ngwenya challenged youth league members not to be used by other political leaders.

Instead she said, youths should learn the doctrine of the party so that they are not easily swayed.

She bemoaned cultural decadence, saying young people were no longer respectful and have lost their self-esteem.

Cde Ngwenya said it was worrying that youths who are supposed to be better educated than the older generation have become alien to the country’s culture.

She said skin lightening creams have blinded women to the extent that some of them no longer remember their original skin colours.

“I thought that our children after going to colleges and universities will be more enlightened than us. But what they have mastered is the English language yet they don’t have substance in understanding issues. I wish there could be ideological courses in schools so that our children can learn who they are and be proud of themselves,” said Cde Ngwenya.

She also touched on her daily challenges resulting in Cde Togarepi pledging that the Youth League will address some of them.

“We are going to take care of you, you are our hero and as the youths we would have betrayed the struggle if we do not address those challenges. We are going to hire a maid who will come and take care of you. And we will be visiting you on a weekly basis to learn about your problems so that we can address them,” said Cde Togarepi. — @ nqotshili
