BULAWAYO, Monday, February 12, 1968 — Log leaders BAC and close challengers for this season’s Bulawayo First League cricket title, Queens, both chalked up comfortable first-innings victories against their respective second string combinations, while Raylton showed improved form in beating Old Techs in yesterday’s league games.

Except for a couple of good individual performances, the cricket on offer was poor. With the end of the season only a month away, much of the enthusiasm evident earlier in the season had disappeared.

Raylton provided most of the bright cricket. Batting first against Old Techs, they rattled up 175 at less than a run a minute. Young Terry Bowes was the best of the Raylton batsmen, hitting 62 in 90 minutes before being unfortunately run out when in full flight.

He cracked seven fours in his innings, which came after Raylton had lost their first five wickets for 67.

Old Techs’ opening bowler Lewis was the best of an otherwise unimpressive attack, with 5-45.

Despite some stern resistance from opener Jack Davison, who batted right through the innings. Old Techs were never in the hunt. With wickets tumbling around him, Davison got his head down and in a three hour stay collected an unbeaten 47.

He got useful support from Hoffenberg (26) and Hall (19) — the only other players to reach double figures as Old Techs were put out for 126, leaving Raylton the winners by 49 runs.

At Queens a stubborn Queens batted for nearly four hours while scoring a meagre 126.
