Address war vets’ problems
EDITOR — The former President early last year announced that Government would like to improve the welfare of war veterans and their families by revising their monthly pensions, just like what was done for chiefs when they were given vehicles.
The Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans last Sunday at Lupane praised the war veterans for removing the former president Cde Robert Mugabe and even proposed 18 November to be made a holiday.
To the surprise of many who had walked kilometres to attend this important gathering organised by the war veterans, the general secretary, Cde Victor Matemadanda, never mentioned anything about the outstanding pension increase and back pay issues.
This left the people very disappointed and still worried about the welfare of the war veterans and their families who have been disadvantaged from the time they left their homes to join the struggle many years ago.
Worse still they are paying Government tax like everyone else. May the relevant Ministry of War Veterans, Detainees and War Collaborators and Minister of Finance seriously look into this issue before the President’s 100 day mark.
