Revamping of Squash Federation of Arts Seniors Championships venues starts
THE local business community has started revamping the four venues that will be used for Squash Federation of Africa Seniors Championships to be held next month in Bulawayo.
Suburbs, Old Miltonians, Christian Brothers College (CBC) and Holiday Inn will be the venues for the Championships that have been rescheduled for November 4-11.
The continent’s supreme squash competition had initially been set for October 14-21.

Africa president expressed his gratitude to the corporate world involved in sprucing up the venues.
“When you host a tournament of this magnitude it’s important that you have the facilities repainted and the courts spruced up. At Suburbs, courts have been painted and grading at the car park has been done by JR Goddard Contractors. Davies Granite has donated quarry that will be used to gravel the parking space. There are a few touch ups still outstanding at Suburbs.
“Arenel has done the painting at CBC, revamping is also underway at Old Miltonians while Holiday Inn should be ready midmonth. We expect the venues to be ready for the tournament mid-October,” Mlilo said.
Botswana, DRC, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Zanzibar and the hosts Zimbabwe will compete in the tournament that makes a return after nine years.
The Squash Federation of Africa Seniors Championships, which used to be called the All-Africa Seniors Championships, were last held in 2013 in Namibia.
The return of the tournament has generated interest in squash circles, with England based World Squash Federation president Zena Wooldridge and WSF chief executive officer William Louis-Marie set to attend the competition. — @ZililoR
