Tuskers complete double over Eagles

- Brandon Moyo Sports Reporter

TUSKERS’ perfect run in the 2022/23 Pro50 Championship continued when they triumphed by 15 runs over Eagles at Harare Sports Club yesterday.

A brilliant effort with both bat and ball saw Tuskers score 269-7 in 50 overs and successfully defending it in 45.3 overs after bowling out Eagles for 254 despite Tadiwanashe Marumani scoring a hundred. Tuskers now have two wins in as many matches.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the team from Bulawayo’s innings was carried by Milton Shumba and Alvin Chiradza, who both scored 50s. Player of the Match Shumba fell immediately after reaching the milestone of 50 runs while Chiradza, scoring his second of the season finished unbeaten on 50 as well.

Veteran batter, Brian Chari fell five runs short of his maiden half century of the season after he was bowled by Wesley Madhevere on 45 runs.

Kudzai Maunze was the pick of the bowlers for Eagles finishing with figures of 3/32 in seven overs and in 10 overs, Madhevere finished with 2/45.

Just like they did in their team’s opening match of the season, the Tuskers bowlers once again came to the party to win it despite Marumani’s fighting ton. Pace bowler Sheunopa Musekwa once again produced another splendid innings with the ball, taking four wickets for 48 runs in 8.3 overs, including the wicket of danger man Marumani who departed for 100 off 108 deliveries.

Musekwa was supported by another searmer, Ernest Masuku who finished with 2/39 in eight overs and Milton Shumba who also took two wickets for 34 runs. Tanatswa Bechani was not to be left out in the wicket takers as he took one wicket and the other wicket that fell was a run out by Nkosana Mpofu. — @brandon_malvin
