SHAINA CAST MEMBER ON CLOUD NINE

- Shingirirayi Mugodi

ACTRESS and Shaina cast member Tadiwanashe Marowa is on could nine.

The 22-year-old University of Zimbabwe (UZ) Media student says the role she played has made her popular with film enthusiasts.

Tadiwanashe starred in the movie as Faro, a private school student who had her sights set on fashion design school, but had to face an unexpected obstacle and the fury of her strict parents.

In an interview with H-Metro, Tadiwa said being part of the movie was a life changing experience for her.

“Being part of the cast of this movie was a life-changing experience working alongside people who I have always admired and liked like Nyaradzo Nhongonhema was a dream come true.

“The friendships and bonds that were created are unmatched with anything I have ever experienced before.

“I do not know how I feel about the recognition, I have not digested that part yet,” she said.

Tadiwa said that Shaina seeks to explain how girls can help each other shape their futures.

“Shaina the movie is a story about a young girl and her friends and how they shape each other’s lives.

“It seeks to give hope and positivity to the young Zimbabwean girls who find themselves in the same situation as the characters in the movie.

“It is a message to the young girls left to take care of their siblings because they have no one else that they should not have to be forced into uncomfortable situations like prostitution; there is always a way out,” Tadiwa said.

She added:

“It seeks to tell young girls that have fallen pregnant that it is not the end of the world neither do they need a man to take care of a child.

“It is a movie that seeks to empower and teach girls about sexual and reproductive health.

“The stories our community fears to speak about should be known.”

Asked how it felt working with the cast and crew Tadiwa said:

“I think Shaina the movie cast and crew are the best I have worked with, everyone was so kind, polite and welcoming, I never felt out of place or alone or uncomfortable.

“The director, Beautie Masvaure Alt always ensured our safety, comfort and happiness.

“This was my first major film gig and I must say as a theatre student, it opened up my eyes to the world of possibilities waiting to be untapped.”

She added:

“The more matured actors always gave advice and helped out where they could.

“The experience I gained and the knowledge is something I am grateful about.”

Asked if she was to appear in any other movie or television series this year, Tadiwa said that all things have been put on a stand still because of the Covid-19 pandemic, but people should prepare for a ZBC series called the Justices.

Tadiwa left a message for those who want to join the film industry, she said:

“For those pursuing to be big in the film industry, my advice is keep working hard, go to those auditions, do those short films, do it all, you never know what doors open for you.

“Never give up, keep pushing.”
