Winky D conquers Africa
DANCEHALL superstar Wallace “Winky D” Chirumiko has outshone other big names in the African dancehall scene after scooping the Best Dancehall Artist award at the African Entertainment Awards USA held on Sunday.
Winky D was competing with African giants in Dancehall such as Shatta Wale, Patoranking, Bebe Cool, Stonebwoy, Samini, Jose Chameleone, Prince Bright, Navy Kenzo and Sheebah Karungi.
The award has come as a huge lift for the dancehall star who has for close to two decades dominated the local music industry.
He has also been making inroads on the regional and international market with some of his songs getting recognition outside Zimbabwe.
Th is year, Winky D featured in the top 10 best African dancehall artistes on three different platforms including Africa Facts Zone and African Music Promotion.
His songs Njema, Ijipita and Chandelier also reached some charts outside Zimbabwe.
The album Njema also became number one on Amazon world sales in the reggae albums category and number four on all albums on January 1.
Winky D, who could not hide his happiness, expressed gratitude to his fans for the support.

Winky D recently released three songs on a mini album titled Ragga Musambo Triology which carries songs such as Reply, David and Goliath and Ragga Musambo.
The song Reply, accompanied by a video, set a local record for most views in 24 hours.
David and Goliath has also been welcomed by hardcore dancehall fans who reminisced over the days when
Winky D rocked the streets with hardcore dancehall.
Meanwhile, internation dancehall star Bennie Man endorsed David and Goliath and
Ragga Musambo.
