CHAN Warriors warned

PLAYERS shortlisted to represent the country at the CHAN finals set for Cameroon next year have been urged to be disciplined during the festive holidays.

Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic on Sunday called off camp and released players after more than two weeks of training.

The boys are expected to regroup on December 27, however, with the number trimmed.

Speaking to H-Metro yesterday, Warriors manager Wellington Mpandare said the players have been given out some programmes and guidelines to follow while on holiday.

Mpandare said the coach has emphasised discipline saying it is the players’ responsibility.

“The players left camp on Sunday and there are certain issues the coach has highlighted to them, chief among them discipline which we believe is the players’ responsibility.

“They should know that they are going to Cameroon to market themselves and they can only achieve that if they stay disciplined. They were given some programmes to do this week but obviously during holidays they need to be with their families and they have been allowed to do that,” said Mpandare .

Loga is expected to trim the squad and announce the 23 men set to represent the country in Cameroon. H-Metro understands the coach will announce those who would have made his grade two days before the restart of camp.

“The coach is expected to trim the squad to 23 and the players to make it will be informed through their mobile phones before the coach makes an official communication through the media.

“Only 23 players will join camp on December 27,” said Mpandare.

The team manager said the coach will select his boys on an informed position after a series friendly matches with local clubs.

“It was more of a bubble for the coach. He dropped some players, picked some players from teams like Manica Diamonds and Bulawayo Chiefs who didn’t get the chance on the initial squad.

“Other teams had players initially called in but some were dropped while some were roped in. So the coach is happy. He is the one who suggested to have those friendlies since he didn’t get the chance to watch local action,” said Mpandare.

He said preparations for the Cameroon finals are going on smoothly and they expect the same when they resume camp.

“The team has been in camp and everything is being catered for, everything is going on smoothly and the idea is to maintain that until the finals.

“This will help psyche the boys going into the finals, we believe the game doesn’t start on the pitch.”
