Tembo laments two points lost

-

SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo was left disappointed after his side let a late lead slip to draw 2-2 DStv Premiership draw with Chippa United on Wednesday.

Bradley Grobler netted an eighth goal of the season and Thamsanqa Gabuza his second as SuperSport came from behind to lead going into the final three minutes, but Maloisane Mokhele rescued a point for Chippa with his first goal for the club.

Matsatsantsa move to five points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns and Swallows FC, but have a game in hand.

“We were very positive when we started, but then the mentality changed, we started dropping off. We gave them time and space on the ball and you can’t do that with a side like Chippa,” Tembo said.

“Our pressing wasn’t very good, we played in phases, but we improved in the second half. We played more effective football and scored the two goals. But overall we have no business dropping two points.

“It wasn’t a good performance from us, but beside that we created a lot of opportunities and I am disappointed that we dropped the points.

“Our performance was flat, our game starts with our pressing and that was not consistent, but we allowed the opponents to find spaces and start playing. But we could have been 3-0 up in the first five minutes.

“We were not sharp, I don’t want to say it was the [festive season] break, maybe it was just one of those days. We just have to look forward and make sure we play well in our weekend game.”

SuperSport travel to TS Galaxy on Saturday and while they have been strong in attack this season, Tembo will be concerned with just two clean sheets in 11 matches this campaign.

“Scoring goals makes us win games and I am pleased we are an attack-minded team that finds forward solutions, but defensively we have been lacking. Look at the two goals today, we could have done better.”
