- Chioniso Mashakada

THE Zimbabwean quartet of Kelvin Moyo, Takudzwa Chimwemwe, Jimmy Dzingai and Talbert Shumba has expressed delight after its team — Nkana FC — qualified for the CAF Confederation group stage.

The Zambian side eliminated Moroccan side, AS de Casablanca, 3-2 on aggregate despite losing 2-1 at the weekend.

Nkana had won the first leg 2-0 at home.

They have since been drawn in Group D together with Raja Casablanca of Morocco, Pyramids FC of Egypt and the winners between Namungo of Tanzania and Primeiro de Agosto of Angola.

The Warriors stars all played to help the Kitwe-based team captained by Moyo, to progress to the next stage of the competition.

Speaking to H-Metro yesterday, the Zimbabweans are happy with the result and vowed to fight going forward.

Goalkeeper Talbert Shumba said it is a dream come true to reach this stage of the second-tier competition of African club football

“I’m very happy that we managed to qualify for the group stage and it’s a dream come true for me.

“As a team we are in a position we wanted to be and personally I am in the promised land of African football, I wouldn’t want to set any targets specifically but what I can say is we are ready to compete in the deep end of African football,” said Shumba.

Dzingai, who rose from the bench, said it has not been easy.

“We thank God we qualified to the next stage, it wasn’t an easy road but by His grace we made it.

“We are still aiming high and all we want to do is winning.”

Chimwemwe said they now shift focus to the next stage of the competition.

“It wasn’t an easy road for us, the match was tough but I’m happy that we managed to qualify for the next stage and we have to thank God for that.

“We are now shifting focus to the next round, the draw is on today we will see who we are facing next, we will keep on hoping for the best result. Besides these three captain Kevin
