BLACK COFFEE DENIES ASSAULTING ESTRANGED WIFE
DJ BLACK COFFEE, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, has denied allegations by his estranged wife Enhle Mbali Mlotshwa that he assaulted her.
In a series of tweets that he posted on social media Maphumulo said: “In the name of respect and dignity for my family and my children I’ve been quiet but now I feel a need to speak. GBV (gender based violence) is major issue in our country, every day we read about horrendous crimes committed by men against women and children.”
“I DID NOT assault Mbali, the mother of my children. I didn’t do it now and I have never done it before. It is truly regrettable that she has chosen to mislead the public using the name of GBV and seeking a protection order against me to separate me from my children and our home,” said Maphumulo.
“Everyday I am attacked by relentless lies and falsehoods. I did not assault her. As a law-abiding citizen, I will absolutely observe the demands of the interim order but will categorically oppose the permanent installation of its prescripts and this is why we are currently in court.”
His posts come after the couple’s lawyers appeared before the Randburg magistrate’s court on Monday to argue whether an interim protection order granted against Maphumulo should be
made final or withdrawn.
Mlotshwa obtained the order on March 9, after two alleged incidents of aggression where the DJ allegedly pushed her and shouted at her in front of their children and her dinner guests at their Johannesburg home. Maphumulo said he grew up witnessing GBV in his own household from a young age and that he vowed to not repeat the same behaviour.
Mlotshwa, an actress and fashionista, accused the DJ of pushing her and shouting at her in front of their children and her dinner guests. During court adjournment on Monday, Mlotshwa said she was fighting against gender-based violence.
In the application that she submitted to the Randburg magistrates court last month, Mlotshwa alleged that Maphumulo had
assaulted her in 2014, leaving her with a scar on her hand, and that the latest incident reminded her of that ordeal as he had “that same look on his face”.
The DJ had allegedly visited their Johannesburg home to collect and later drop off their children when she found Mlotshwa hosting a dinner party with friends.
She said Maphumulo threatened to call police and shut the dinner party down.
“He was at this point shouting ... and the guests that had arrived were watching,” she stated in her application for the interim court order. Mlotshwa said the second incident occurred on Sunday when Maphumulo was returning the children home where he raised his voice at her and pushed her in front of their children.
