Faithdrive Queens in player crisis

- Richard Zimunya

MUTARE-BASED Women Premier Soccer League side Faithdrive Queens are in player crisis after they failed to retain the bulk of their players ahead of women’s topflight football league resumption.

This was revealed by the team’s head coach Admire Mahachi.

“To be honest, we did not retain the bulk of our players, we lost 12 players which were in our books early last year before we went on the Covid-19 long break,” he said.

“It is only the duo of Concilia Madotsa and Purity Mugayi that left the club on pure football business terms as they were acquired by Black Rhinos Queens.

“As for the rest, some of the players got married while others quit football and went to South Africa to look for employment in other professions outside football,” said the 35-year-old gaffer.

Mahachi remains positive and takes this as an opportunity to develop other players.

“I am so positive that this is an opportunity to develop other youngsters from our juniors into the senior team to fill the void and I am sure they will rise,” he added.

Faithdrive Queens have been enjoying top-flight league football since 2013 as the sole representative from Mutare until this coming season when Queens Academy will be joining after promotion from the Division One. Meanwhile, Faithdrive Queens were drawn in the same group with heavyweights Black Rhinos Queens and Herentals and new city rivals Queens Academy.

Some of the player who have parted ways with the club include Poneso Chari, Concilia Madotsa, Purity Mugayi, Dezzy Marume, Pationa Nyamugure, Lucia Chisvo, Evelyn Nyakunhuwa, Monalisa Ruswa, Plaxedes Mutanda, Panashe Maedziso, Locadia Tizira and Christabel Zulu.
