SAFE DRINKING WATER FOR ARCADIA
HARARE is welcoming steady and progressive steps towards provision of safe water, good health and sanitation to its communities, a Government official has said.
This was said during a water purification plant commissioning by Harare Provincial Development Coordinator (PDC) Tafadzwa Muguti in Arcadia last Friday.
The plant, which has capacity to bottle 1 000 containers per hour, was donated by Harare businesswoman Loice Magweba.
Speaking at the ceremony, Muguti said: “Government welcomes such initiatives as the one taken by Loice Magweba to provide safe and clean water within the Harare Central Constituency.
“The efforts are in line with President Mnangagwa’s vision that seeks to have the country attaining middle income economy status by 2030.
“The realisation of such requires steady and progressive steps as such done by Loice Magweba and her team,” said Muguti.
Muguti commended Magweba for also demonstrating true empathy towards fellow citizens.
“These and other philanthropic efforts done by Loice Magweba demonstrate true empathy towards fellow citizens.
“We also commend leaders within the Harare Central Constituency for working closely with Loice Magweba in mobilising food provisions for the Arcadia Old Aged People’s Home, Arcadia Feeding Scheme and Vulnerable Members of the Baptist Church.
“Community interventions require support from all stakeholders including community leaders, politicians, civil society, faith-based organisations and residents at large,” said Muguti.
In her speech, Loice Magweba, who is also the ruling party’s shadow legislator in Harare Central Constituency, said she was happy to contribute positively.
“As a businesswoman and leader of the ruling party, I saw the need to respond quickly and I came up with the idea to bring safe water to the coloured community.
“After collaborating with community leaders, I imported the machine from South Africa and we had to wait for six months to have the machine across the Limpopo because of strict Covid-19 regulations,” she said.
She also urged residents to take part more often in community programs in order for their needs to be catered for.
Residents also got a chance to air their expectations and grievances to the guests, with elderly people calling for pieces of land and improved health care at the clinics.
Magweba also handed over food hampers to the elderly during the event.
