Miss Super Queen condemns child marriages
REIGNING Miss Super Queen Ivy has denounced child marriages.
She was speaking at the recently held Miss Chiwundura pageant in Gweru.
The 20-year-old student said the pageant is meant to uplift the standards of the girl child in the marginalised set-ups.
“I wrote my Upper Sixth exams and I am waiting to start university. We held a pageant in the low lying areas on April 24 and this is the first ever Miss Chiwundura. I did this in conjunction with Ember Modelling Agency.
“I thought of doing a pageant in that area after discovering that there are many talented youths in the area, but there are no opportunities for them to showcase their talents.
“The girls in the area only see early marriages as an option, so this came to stop these kind of marriages which do not last,” she said.
Added Ivy: “Our pageant was running under the theme, ‘Face your fear and defy the odds’ and our boot camp ran from April 22 to 24.
“The winners were as follows: Miss Chiwundura 2021 Queen was 23-year-old Rutendo Kudzai Chipanga, First Princess was 17-year-old Tsidiso J Baboon, the Second Princess was 19-year-old Gamuchirai Muchawaya, while Queen Talent was 17-year-old Kelly Sibanda, with Miss Personality being 24-year-old Mitchell Tafara Zivanai and Miss People’s Choice was 18-year-old Lucia Phiri.”
Organisers included Ivy, Tanatswa Mamwuk and Owe while outgoing queen was Chipo Mutonhono.
The adjudicators were Ivy, Tadiwanashe Ember and Dermaco Deelroy.
