ROBBED AT GUNPOINT

- Paul Pindani in CHINHOYI

TWO Zambia-bound women from Gokwe were robbed of valuables and cash at gunpoint at Exor Service Station.

Mashonaland West provincial police spokesperson Inspector Margaret Chitove told H-Metro that the unfortunate incident happened on July 20, 2021.

She said the two women, Simbisa Mudzemeti (27) and Patience Svosve (22) of Nora Business Centre, Nembudziya, Gokwe, were at D&R Chinhoyi waiting for transport to Zambia.

She said they boarded an unregistered white Toyota Corolla with three occupants.

Insp Chitove said the vehicle was driven towards Chirundu and when they arrived at Exor turn off, the driver turned left towards Mzari low-density suburb.

She said suddenly, the three who were already in the car threatened them with a pistol and a knife, demanding their valuables.

“They blindfolded them with pieces of cloths and robbed them of their valuables and cash amounting to US$2 770,” said Insp Chitove.

She added. “After the robbery, they were dumped at the crime scene and the three disappeared.”

Insp Chitove said the two managed to untie themselves and reported the case at Chinhoyi Central police station.

She appealed to members of the general populace with information to assist the police with investigations to contact any police station nearby or the provincial operations office on 0672129049.

“We want to urge members of the public to avoid boarding unregistered vehicles as they are being used to commit crimes of robbery. As police, we are worried by an upsurge in robbery cases in the province,” said Insp Chitove.
