There are better solutions

-

EVERY year, the media is awash with stories of people who commit crimes, but these stories have not made good reading.

Obviously the worst crime has to be one that ends peoples’ lives - murder. And too many times we have heard of murder being committed.

The word “murder” has become so common in the media and in everyday conversation that some people actually think it is normal to kill someone.

Now it is common to read about people who murder, even mass murder at times, the same way we read about sports news or the weather report.

There is nothing strange about murders anymore and many are growing accustomed to these heinous crimes.

Because if people start considering something as normal then they are saying they can also do the same thing, circumstances allowing.

Murder should be the first thing on any person’s “unthinkable” list, followed by suicide.

The question, “Why do people kill?” has been answered in so many ways but today, let us be resolved never to consider murder as a solution to any problem we might face as individuals.

Research has said people murder because they are, “chronically aggressive, cognitively rigid and inflexible, short tempered, easily frustrated, resentful to authority, traumatised, mentally challenged, paranoid” . . . the list is endless BUT the truth is people murder because they think murder is actually a solution to some problem, an option.

Research has shown that most people who kill believe “violence and/or aggression are legitimate responses to various interpersonal problems in life - that is, if someone provokes you, you fight them. But that can only happen in an uncivilised society of savages.

Stories of murder are in the media every day. The question is, did these murders or suicides solve any problem?

Is anyone happy after committing these murders? The answer is NO. All a murder or suicide does is leave one with regret and a wish to undo their deed.

Many have caught their wives or husbands cheating but they endured the heartache and moved on to find even better partners or live alone as single parents that smile a lot.

If a problem or shame or guilt is worth dying for, it will kill you on its own. You will have a heart attack because your mind and soul cannot contain the burden.

The media is never happy to report stories about death - no matter how unique the circumstances leading to the death may be.
