GOGO MASHAMHANDA LEGACY HAILED
THE late Gogo Tsvakai Mashamhanda Hwede’s legacy as a peace-loving woman, unifier and hard worker will not be interred with her remains, a family spokesperson has said.
In a telephone interview with H-Metro over the weekend after her befitting send-off in Chivi, businessman and son to the late granny, Alex Mashamhanda, said his mother taught them Ubuntu.
She died last week aged 94.
Gogo Mashamhanda is survived by 31 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Despite losing his mother, who was six years shy of being a centenarian, Mashamhanda — who is the founding director of Mashwede Holdings — hailed the departed granny for a life well lived.
“She taught us to love and share what we have with other needy members of the community.
“She taught us to be hard working as well as to empower our communities.
“Gogo helped a number of youngsters during her lifetime as she empowered them through a number of projects,” he said.
Mashamhanda said they will always cherish their mother’s legacy although he could not be drawn into revealing programmes lined up in her memory.
“We will always celebrate her legacy but we can’t reveal how we are going to do it because we haven’t discussed it at family level.
“There are however some of the programmes that we are going to hold in her memory like the soccer tournaments that we have been holding for years.
“A lot will be announced in due course, but we can’t preempt everything at the moment since we haven’t discussed it at family level,” he said.
Despite the Covid-19 pandemic which does not allow mass gatherings, Mashamhanda said they observed the health regulations to ensure they gave her a dignified send-off.
“We are grateful for the support that we received at the event, which made Gogo Mashamhanda’s send-off worthwhile,” he added.
