CHRISTABEL ON THE RISE
BLACK RHINOS QUEENS’ rising star, Christabel Katona credits teammates and the environment at the army club for her sudden rise.
Katona was one of the brightest stars in the Black Rhinos Queens’ adventure in the CAF Women’s champions league COSAFA region qualifiers which ended in the final after going down to Sundowns Ladies.
The 22 year old was rewarded for her scintillating performances in the African safari with a national team call up by coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda.
“As a young player at Rhinos i just give thanks to my senior players who always encourage me to be a better player. The likes of Talent Mandaza, Felistas Muzongondi, Daisy Kaitano, Patience Mujuru and all my team mates because it takes a team to win,” said Katona. On her participation in the Champions
league which saw her coming out with a goal, the midfielder said it is one of her biggest achievements thus far.
“Being part of the team which played in the Caf Champions league was the greatest achievement for me. I am so happy with what we achieved as Black Rhinos Queens in Durban because the league was inactive but we managed to play in the final though we lost but it was a better performance by the team,” said Katona.
The young player is rumoured to be under the radar of some foreign Clubs due to her exploits in the tourney.
Katona further said she harbours ambitions of playing for the Mighty Warriors and her dream could come true as she is part of the team that is preparing for the COSAFA Cup tournament
“My wish is to play for the Mighty Warriors and then playing abroad,” added Katona.
