Ministry, Zinara tour new roads
TRANSPORT and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona is happy with the progress being made in the construction and rehabilitation of roads in Harare.
He toured some of the projects in the company of ZINARA board chairman, George Manyaya.
Minister Mhona said it was important to be on the ground to physically assess the progress.
“We have chosen to tour these roads, especially Delport, because it will not only connect Epworth but will connect major utilities like the Airport and Sunway City, which has been declared the economic zone. We are actually constructing a direct link from Sunway City to the Airport. Delport will de-congest the city since anyone who will be coming from Mutare, or Ruwa, will use this road to connect to Chitungwiza, through Seke Road rather than getting into town first.
“That is why we are rehabilitating Seke Road. The tour is meant for the citizens to be aware of how the funds are being used. As a Ministry, we do not overemphasise the idea of having good roads.
“Good roads will save citizens on the maintenance of
vehicles, on issues such as tyre punctures and shocks.”
He added: “The idea of posting bad roads on social media platforms is important as we will know that we have to move with speed in revamping them, therefore, I encourage citizens to inform us.
“We are going province
by province doing this and, regardless of the scarcity of resources, we are managing.
“ZINARA is now facilitating and not taking part in the reconstruction of roads, which is different, when compared to the old ZINARA, which was giving contractors deals to rehabilitate roads.”
