SALVATION ARMY SETS TONE FOR EASTER
THE Salvation Army Harare City Corps was on Saturday filled to capacity with Salvationists and friends from around the Territory who gathered for the Zimbabwe Territorial Band concert.
It was graced by the Zimbabwe Territorial Songsters, Zimbabwe Territorial Youth Singers and the Harare City Corps Songsters.
The concert was held under the theme; ‘Power of the Cross’.
Zimbabwe Territorial Band leader, Mike Mthombeni, told H-Metro that the need to set the tone for Easter pushed them to host a concert.
“We wanted to set the tone for Easter as well as get the feel of a concert since we have had a long break without one,” said Mthombeni.
“Since we are in Lent, we then focused our theme on Easter, we still have one or two more concerts lined up before year end where we will focus on celebrations of music and the other one during Christmas time.”
ZTB renditions moved from hymn, tune arrangements, selections, and Jazz sensations to Marches with compositions from Mozart, Hamburg to Bramwell Coles.
The most moving presentation from ZTB was the playing of ‘There is a Redeemer’ with soloist Sharon Bote doing a vocal for the band, which attracted a standing ovation.
‘Ave Verum Corpus’ a tenor solo composed by Mozart and arranged by S. Nichifor with soloist Moses Mandeya from Anglican Church, brought yet another standing ovation.
The ZTS provided ‘Here at the Cross’, ‘In Christ Alone’ and ‘Christ Arose’.
The ZTYS presented ‘Calvary’ written by Maxwell Barson, a vocal selection, ‘The Burden – Bearer’ and ‘Mwana Tarisa Amai’.
They received a thunderous applause from the congregation.
Harare City Corps Songsters performed ‘Written In Red’ quite fitting for the Easter Concert.
Harare City Corps male voices gave a moving rendition of “When I Survey The Wondrous Cross’ to the tune Rockingham.
