Sugar Miracle surprises Tapera

- Bruce Chikuni

TRIANGLE United coach, Jairos Tapera, says their position on the Castle Lager Premiership table is a MIRACLE.

The Sugar Sugar Boys are third on log, just three points behind leaders Dynamos, who are on 26 points.

Tapera’s troops are punching above their weight despite losing several key players after the AFCON finals break.

They were forced to conduct trials, in a space of two weeks, to assemble a new team.

He is set to face his former paymasters, Yadah Stars, whom he mentored during the 2017 season, at the National Sports Stadium on Friday.

Both teams had a good weekend.

The Miracle Boys edged a resilient Tenax side 3-1 at Sakubva while Triangle salvaged a 2-1 victory over CAPS United at Gibbo.

“It’s not been easy but dedication, and team work, has been our secret,” said Tapera.

“This is God’s will but I’m a bit surprised, if anyone had told me that we would be in this position on the league table at this moment, I would have taken it as a joke.

“I’m happy the boys are putting in 100 percent effort each time we play and the energy levels are quite overwhelming.

“There’s still a long way to go, we still have a lot of work to do and we just have to keep going and avoid complacency.”

He said they were facing Yadah at the wrong time since they wanted to make an impression at their new home ground, National Sports Stadium.

“It’s going to be a tough one for us, if you noticed Yadah actually played well at the same venue against CAPS United,” he said.

“Obviously, they are going to try to play with the same energy.

“We are going to give a fight, just like how we have been doing of late, they have a youthful side, they play collectively and overall, it’s a tricky fixture.”

Triangle skipper, Donald Ngoma, is nursing a muscle injury and Tapera said he was a big doubt for the assignment.
