US-based rookie making a name for himself

- Bruce Chikuni

MUNASHE Ariwamwari is making a good case for himself in the United States of America’s National Premier Soccer League fourth tier.

The 18-year-old is set to complete his move to Chicago Nation FC, from Atletico Venezuela.

The NPSL is on a off-season break and the rockie forward enjoyed a fine season, during the last campaign, in which he scored five goals and provided three assists in nine assignments.

“I’m actually excited with the developments, we are in the process of finalising the deal and it’s almost a done deal,” said Ariwamwari.

“Chicago Nation FC will present me with a better stage to showcase my abilities and I’m confident that it’s a good move for me and it will work as a stepping stone in my career.

“I learnt a lot in the just-ended season, I believe I’m ready to play on a bigger stage, my dream is to make a name for myself and earn my national team call-up as soon as possible.

“My ambition and objective is to play for the Warriors and I believe it’s just a matter of time, I really want to play at the top level.”

He said he was inspired by Nyasha Dube, who also plies his trade in the same league for Little Rock Rangers, and was in the 2021 COSAFA Cup squad.

“It’s everyone’s wish to represent their country, it’s been my wish since the early days of my career.

“When I saw Dube donning the national team’s jersey, it gave me the drive.

“It was really motivational, it pushed me to the edge, Dube is like a brother to me, and he has been helpful in many ways in my football career,” he said.

The footprints of former Dynamos keeper’ Tatenda Mukuruva are also traced in the NPSL lower leagues.

He is now playing for Michigan Stars in the third tier.

The league is behind Major League Soccer, the USL Championship, and the USL League One.

Warriors defender, Teenage Hadebe, who plays for Houston Dynamo, is also making a name for himself in Major League Soccer.
