AMAKHOSI OUT TO STOP ROT

-

JOHANNESBURG. - Kaizer Chiefs will travel to Princess Magogo Stadium for a date with Golden Arrows today aiming to avoid adding further dents to their campaign.

Chiefs lost against Stellenbosch over the weekend, which was their seventh defeat this season, and the second time that they have lost consecutive league matches this term.

The loss to Stellies meant the Western Cape is now the second club to complete a double over Chiefs this season after also winning at FNB at the beginning of November.

Royal AM have also already done a ‘home and away’ over AmaKhosi humiliating them 4-1 in September before grinding their way to a 1-0 win at home in December.

Chiefs’ next opponents - Arrows - are also chasing the same feat already achieved by Stellies and Royal AM.

Abafana Bes’thende won by a solitary goal scored by Zimbabwe international forward Knox Mutizwa last month at FNB Stadium and will be chasing another victory to give them all six points against Chiefs.

Besides Arrows, Sundowns is the only other club that still has the chance to complete a double on AmaKhosi - who now have Arthur Zwane and Dillon Sheppard following the sacking of Stuart Baxter last week.

“Looking forward to the next game, and it is not going to be easy because games are now coming thick and fast.

“We are playing Golden Arrows who are a difficult team to play at home so we will try but we will try and grind a result and keep on encouraging the boys,” says Zwane.

Just like Chiefs, Arrows now have the pair of Mabhuti Khenyeza and Vusumuzi Vilakazi serving as caretaker co-coaches following the sacking of Lehlohonolo Seema.

The Durban club are chasing a top-eight finish. Chiefs have six games to play against Arrows, Cape Town City, Marumo Gallants, Mamelodi Sundowns, Sekhukhune United, and Swallows

Chiefs cannot surpass the 57 points that Mamelodi Sundowns already have and must fight for either second or third place which carries the value of continental football next season.

Such has been Chiefs’ season that TS Galaxy, Sundowns, Royal AM, Marumo, AmaZulu, SuperSport United, Stellenbosch, Cape Town City, and Arrows have all taken bagged points from fixtures against the Naturena based club.
