CARNIVAL ROCKS VIC FALLS

- From Andrew Moyo in VICTORIA FALLS

THE Victoria Falls Carnival, held over the weekend at the Elephant Hills Resort, got off to what some might say a ‘false start’ with DJ Maphorisa, Kabza De Small and Sha Sha failing to show up on the opening night.

However, the trio’s absence did not affect the shows as the artists, who came, brought their A game to the stage.

Day one ended up being explosive with the likes of Khoisan from Botswana, South African stars — Master KG and Zanda Zakuza — ensuring the crowd got value for their money.

Khoisan had an exceptional set, which had people bringing out their bags of dance moves.

The group’s captivating performance, and their connection with the crowd, caught the eye.

By the time Master KG came later on, the vibe was just right and the star did what he knows best, entertain.

He dug deep into his hit list, which kept the crowd on their toes, singing along and dancing throughout the show.

His long-time collaborator, Zanda Zakuza came to join him with the songstress adding fuel to the fire.

“Chibaba icho,” commented one fan who was impressed by the performance.

In an interview after his performance, Master KG said that Zimbabwe was a beautiful country with a fan base that always shows him love.

The artist also performed in Bulawayo at the Independence Day Celebrations.

“I haven’t been in Zimbabwe since 2018, when I was still starting out and now, a few years later, I am having back-to-back shows here.

“It’s a beautiful country and the people here show love and support the music.

“This is like my second home now and I wish I could stay longer.”

Zanda Zakuza said it was always amazing working with Master KG.

“Every time we pull up it’s a good vibe and it’s a pleasure working with Master KG. We all know what he has done, he is amazing to say the very least,” she said.

Day two was even more exciting with more activities lined up.

From the pool party at Elephant Hills to the boat cruises, there was just so much for the fans.

The boat cruise after party was also interesting as Gemma Griffiths and Nutty O gave people a brief highlight of their performances, which were slotted for the final day.

After the day’s activities, all roads then led to the main venue where artists who included Boity, Djembe Monks and Takura performed.

Takura also proved why he is one of the best hip hop artists in the country as he managed to engage the crowd.

His performance was simply phenomenal. By the time of going to print, people were already bracing for the final day with the DJ Shimza’s Kunye event at the Lookout Cafe being the major attraction.
